Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of performing well in its overall score, this nursing home received even higher grades in the area of long-term care. It earned one of our highest scores in that category with an impressive grade of A-. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 95.23809 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive resume, this place also excelled in the category of nursing. We awarded it an B+ for that category. Our nursing grade is primarily based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we rated was short-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B-. Although this ended up being its weakest category rating, this is still nothing to be ashamed of. Short-term care scores are critical for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
