Facility Inspections
While we were not complementary of this place's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B+. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This particular facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a resident more often.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given its next highest category grade in the category of long-term care. We awarded this facility a C in this category, which is a respectable grade. In our long-term care assessment, we focus on the quantity of services provided by a nursing home, along with a few quality measures. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 96.065575 percent of its residents, which is a very solid statistic. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.87 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in this area. Short-term care ratings are vital for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 33.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
