Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its decent overall grade, we gave this facility a grade of A+ for its inspection grade. This grade is far better than its overall grade. Inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also performed favorably in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Few facilities fared better in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. Nursing ratings are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we rated is short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. This is clearly a major disappointment. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. It appears that this facility was below average in many staffing metrics we focus on. The facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
