Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this facility fared well in short-term care. We awarded it a grade of A for that category. With our short-term care category, we strive to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it received an B+. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we graded is long-term care. This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care score in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Even though this isn't as dominant as several of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent rating for this area. Long-term care grades are vital for prospective residents seeking personal care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
