Short-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ short-term care grade. In our short-term care grade, we strive to forge a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility provided about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average facility. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Washington in this area with 60.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing score is largely based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This was one of the higher figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this nursing home was also above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given an impressive long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average grade of B in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the significant amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, it appears this facility has earned quality government inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a B in this area. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 9 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
