The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 74.34944 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing rating is based on several datapoints, however, the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Switching gears to our next area, this nursing home did not fare very well. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this was this nursing home's worst area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we were not stunned to discover this facility was well below average in several staffing metrics we assess. The facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
