We awarded this nursing home one of our better scores in long-term care, where it received an A+. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Inspections is another category where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we awarded this facility an B+ for our inspections category. This score is far more impressive than its overall score. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. There are many factors included in this category. Most of these criteria relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

The final area we analyzed is short-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is certainly a major concern. Our short-term care grade is typically used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. It appears that this facility was subpar in multiple staffing metrics we looked at. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
