Long-term Care Quality
While we gave this nursing home an awful overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our long-term care rating. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We discovered that this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 80.85107 percent of its patients, which is somewhat alarming. Nevertheless, this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home really didn't perform horribly in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of C for that category. Other aspects of its profile were the source of this facility's rock bottom overall grade. Inspection ratings are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This place had 2 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you that it avoided the more ominous categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best category was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. In crafting these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. With its poor rating in this area, we weren't shocked to learn that this place offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we graded is nursing. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is a rock bottom grade. Our nursing grade analyzes several components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. On top of rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these data points. This is a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
