Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A-. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third area, this facility received an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A- in that category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing. We awarded this facility one of our better scores in this category, with a grade of B. Although this wasn't on par with a few of this facility's other grades, it is still a perfectly acceptable score. Our nursing rating is based on a handful of subcategories, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
