Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to faring well overall, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another quality feature for this facility is that it was given a very positive long-term care score. Indeed, this proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The third area we graded was short-term care. This nursing home was given a very positive short-term care grade, with a grade of B in this category. Short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we graded is nursing. We gave this nursing home a decent grade in this area, with a C. Even though this isn't as strong as many of its other grades, it is still not a terrible score. Our nursing score is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percentage of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care.
