Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home one of our better scores in long-term care, where it received a grade of A. This is a notably better grade than the nursing home's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 88.31169 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing grade is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This particular facility provided just 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at was short-term care. For this category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Our short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. It doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
