Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially wanted to emphasize its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given strong grades in the category of long-term care as well. As a result, we awarded it one of our strongest scores in that category with a score of A-. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 86.666664 percent of its patients. This is slightly lower than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home averages 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for short-term care. This is the facility's weakest category rating. Unfortunately, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. It looks like this place was below average in two of the key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
