Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being an elite facility overall, this facility also excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Few facilities fared this well in this category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was strong in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Not many facilities performed better in this area. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. When calculating our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to our last area, this nursing home also performed admirably in our short-term care category. We gave it an A- for this category. This rounded out truly elite report card. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
