Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.06542 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The next area we assessed was short-term care. Contributing to its dominant resume, this nursing home also performed well in that category. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A- in the category. With our short-term care grade, we seek to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It does not appear that this facility provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home also performed admirably in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B+ for that category. This rounded out a very impressive profile. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving a patient even once per day.
