To pair with its decent overall grade, we gave this facility an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far better than the facility's overall rating. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

In addition, we gave this facility a B in our long-term care category. This is one of our higher grades. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.54338 percent of its residents, which is better than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 2.81 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this category, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

This facilities next most favorable area is short-term care. We gave it a C in this area. This is essentially a slightly below average score in this area. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed respectably in this area with 48.7 percent of its patients returning home.

The last category we scored was nursing. We gave it an F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. This is certainly a major disappointment. Our nursing grade includes a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home had poor scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percentage of residents sustaining falls leading to serious injury. This nursing home was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is concerning in light of the fact that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of earning a poor nursing grade.
