One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing turned out to be its best category. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A-. The nursing grade is based on a host of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the category of short-term care. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It doesn't appear that this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Turning to another strength for this facility, we gave them one of our more positive grades in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 80.22599 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Finally, we also gave this nursing home a B for our inspections category. This nursing home didn't have any glaring weak links. Inspection ratings are based on data points found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
