Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies proved to be this nursing home's best achievement.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second most respectable score was long-term care, but even there it earned a grade of just D in that area. This ended up being a well below average score. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.65871 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing score includes a handful of factors, but the main one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average nursing home. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
