Facility Inspections
While we gave this place a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B for our inspections category. This was due to the facility receiving a quality inspection report this year. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second most favorable category was short-term care, but it nevertheless earned just a D in that category. This still happens to be a relatively poor grade. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only earned a D for its long-term care score, which is not an impressive grade. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to patient care. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated just 23.980423 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our last category, this nursing home did not perform well in this area either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is about as bad as it gets. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic really pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
