Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place is a strong facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections is its best category. In this area, we gave it an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received a strong short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B. Our short-term care grade is often employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average grade in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Our next area is nursing, where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this category. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
