Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this facility earned near flawless inspections recently. We awarded them an A+ in this area. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, we were not able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's quality category grades came in the category of long-term care. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of B+. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. After we finished looking at the amount of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.71429 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our higher grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in North Carolina in this area with 63 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we scored was nursing, which proved to be this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this facility a grade of D in this area. Nevertheless, you should not assess this facility solely on a single weak category, since it was awarded many high-end grades in other categories. In calculating our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. While this nursing home's nursing hours were below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative data points in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its patients appear to be experiencing fewer pressure ulcers than the national average.
