Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we didn't rate this nursing home well overall, we want to acknowledge it received a decent grade of B- in the category of nursing. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. While this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a resident even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this facility a respectable score in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

This facility received mediocre government inspections in recent years. We awarded them a C in this area. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we analyzed was long-term care, which was a low point for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a grade of just D in the area of long-term care. Facilities that don't score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.16547 percent of its patients. This is a few points lower than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
