Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. We assessed the licensure of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this category. This facility provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This was one of the higher totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in Minnesota in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a very impressive short-term care score. In fact, this turned out to be this nursing home's third best category score. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A. Our short-term care scores are presumably more important for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility elevated its grade in this area by offering more care from registered nurses to its patients than a typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 62.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly better rate than most facilities.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was long-term care. In this category, we awarded this facility a solid grade of B-. This proved to be this nursing home's worst area. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of providing quality levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This figure is better than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
