Nurse Quality
We also would like to emphasize the fact that this nursing home excelled in our nursing grade. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This is based on the place's recent inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed was short-term care. This facility was superb in our short-term care category as well. We gave them an elite score of A+ in this area. In computing these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a decent grade in this area, with a B-. While this is not as high as some of its other scores, it is still not a bad grade. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
