In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility excelled in our inspections category, where it received a grade of A+. Few places performed as well in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its dominant assessments in other areas, we gave this nursing home a score of A for our long-term care rating. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Adding to its fine assessment, this facility also was awarded a superb short-term care score, with a grade of A-. With our short-term care category, we strive to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Turning to our final area, this nursing home was awarded a very strong nursing rating. While this wasn't nearly as dominant as several of its other scores, this is still one of the better grades we offer. There are many criteria within this area. Many of these subcategories reflect nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
