Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it actually received an impressive grade of A- in the area of nursing. Nursing scores are mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's short-term care rating appears to be one of its more favorable features. The nursing home was given a B- in this area. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared respectably with 45.2 percent of its patients returning home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

This facility received a lowly F for its inspection score. For nursing homes with poor inspection grades, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular facility had one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies uncovered by inspectors had the potential to cause actual harm to residents. Finally, we also want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines of over $100,000. This generally indicates that a facility's bad track record spanned several years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our fourth area, this facility did not perform very well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this nursing home vaccinated only 67.54386 percent of its patients, which is somewhat alarming. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.81 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
