Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this nursing home also was awarded favorable short-term care scores this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of B+. Short-term care grades are often employed to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Switching gears to the last category, this facility received a high-end long-term care rating. This nursing home did not end up having any weak areas. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 97.65101 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
