Short-term Care Quality
In addition to earning a strong overall grade, this facility also received an elite short-term care grade. We gave them one of our higher scores in that area, with an A. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more meaningful for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Unfortunately, it does not look like we were able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Without having access to all of the information regarding deficiencies for this nursing home, it is a challenge to really evaluate the place in this category.

Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. There are several datapoints included in this category. Many of the factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Illinois in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a patient even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final area, we awarded this nursing home a D in long-term care. This was the nursing home's worst category rating. However, you shouldn't over-emphasize one poor score. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care likely don't provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on vaccination rates. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
