Nurse Quality

Grade: B

While we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we actually gave it a very strong grade in nursing, where it received a B. The nursing rating includes a number of subcategories. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility received its second most favorable category grade in the area of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in this area, which is an acceptable score. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most important for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home received a grade of just D in the area of inspections. One of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home was hit with one deficiency by CMS. We were relieved to find that it was not in a category that suggests that it posed a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, we also want to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines in recent years amounting to over $100,000. This often indicates that a nursing home's bad performance has been an issue for multiple years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the final area, we gave this nursing home a D in our long-term care category. This was the nursing home's weakest category rating. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility provided the vaccine to only 53.846157 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
