Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We awarded this nursing home one of our better scores in the area of nursing, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. In calculating a facility's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned an B+. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was given its next highest category grade in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a B- in this area, which is an acceptable score. In our short-term care grade, we try to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care, leaving this as its weakest category grade. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.4375 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
