Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. Nursing scores are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is well below average. Finally, nursing grades also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this facility received a somewhat respectable short-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. Our short-term care scores are probably most critical for individuals requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The final item we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility just a D for our long-term care grade. This is not one of our better scores. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our final category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We weight this category more heavily than our other categories. For facilities with bad inspection ratings, you should scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular facility was hit with 7 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
