Registered Staff Hours
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. The nursing score analyzes several subcategories, however, the main consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provides an incredible 6.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With under five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers could be prevented by providing better nursing care and having a protocol of turning patients at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received strong marks in the category of short-term care. For this reason, it received one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A+. Short-term care grades are generally used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This facility is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. The facility provided roughly 1.5 times as many registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 57.8 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

We also want to alert you to the fact that this facility was awarded a superb grade of A in our long-term care area. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.05825 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.66 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Adding to its impressive category grades, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A. This wrapped up a straight A report card for this place. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
