Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's short-term care score ended up being one of its best scores. The nursing home was awarded a B- in this category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is often a meaningful assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. It doesn't appear that this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's third highest category was its long-term care score, where it was awarded a grade of C. For residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 92.64706 percent of its patients. This is a bit lower than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we looked at was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category, rendering this its worst grade. The nursing grade consists of quite a few components, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these data points to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
