Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its second best category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in this category, which is a reasonably acceptable score. Our short-term care ratings are probably more important for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The real question is whether this also affected quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home and discovered this was this facility's strongest datapoint within this area. This place performed well in this metric with 59.9 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given its third best category grade in the area of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of C in this area, which is an acceptable score. In forming our long-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's personal care services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.75 percent of its residents, which is a few points less than we expected. Nevertheless, this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.26 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we looked at was nursing, was this facility's worst area. We gave this facility a D in that area. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we assess the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic really dragged down this facility's nursing score significantly.
