Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. After considering the significant amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.43 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received quality marks in the category of short-term care. Consequently, it received one of our most impressive scores in that category with a score of A+. Our short-term care grade is typically used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. It performed as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 59.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our final category, this nursing home received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an A in that area, giving this facility straight A's. When calculating a facility's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses are caring for patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This place provides an incredible 5.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this facility also fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility outpaced the national average.
