Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to draw your attention to its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in that category. Sadly, this proved to be one of its best areas. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Based on its abysmal score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility provides far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of long-term care, this facility was given a grade of just D in this area. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.37209 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the final category, this facility really didn't fare very well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Unfortunately, this facility also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than double the national average in this datapoint. This is quite alarming when you consider that so many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a poor nursing score.
