Short-term Care Quality
On top of receiving a great overall score, this facility also received an excellent short-term care score, with an A. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Pennsylvania in this area with 58.9 percent of its residents returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Facility Inspections
Racking up another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it received a score of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
In the last category, this facility also was awarded an excellent long-term care score, with a B+. This completed a very strong profile. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the elite volume of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination record. By way of example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.54768 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. The last datapoint we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is middle of the pack in this area.
