Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home earned near flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other strengths is its top-shelf long-term care grade. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. In addition to offering well above average levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.43503 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.26 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing score includes several subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the highest totals we found. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering falls leading to serious injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the state. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a decent grade in that category, with a C. Even though this is not as favorable as many of its other grades, it is still not a bad grade. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. It performed decently in this area, with 47.5 percent of its residents returning home.
