Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall score, we awarded it a grade of B for our inspections rating. This was the result of the facility receiving a quality government inspection report this year. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Tragically, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care score. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care likely don't provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes offer. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 76.296295 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality
Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. The nursing score is based on several factors. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This particular place provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This number is well below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is short-term care, in which this facility was given a very poor grade in this category also. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care scores are considered to be more important for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. With its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
