Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with too many severe deficiencies flagged. Sadly, this facility was assessed a category L deficiency, which is not what we expected based on its inspection rating. These are the most concerning deficiencies. This category means CMS uncovered a widespread deficiency placing patient safety or health in imminent jeopardy. Even a single deficiency in this category is concerning. While other aspects of this nursing home's inspection report were favorable, we have some reservations.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Our nursing score is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This place averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving a a terrible score in our short-term care category. It received a lowly F in this category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this place offers substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we analyzed was long-term care. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After we finished assessing the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 97.47191 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
