Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility's best category grade came in the category of inspections. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a B+. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also gave this facility a strong score in long-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B in this category, which happens to be one of our higher scores. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 82.87671 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we graded is short-term care. We gave this facility a C in that category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is often a useful measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. It does not look like this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
