Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with an A. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded an impressive long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded them a grade of B+ in that area, which happens to be one of our better. Facilities that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 94.48441 percent of its patients. This is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.78 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Nursing scores are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular nursing home provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing ratings also include quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed above average in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care. It received a lowly F for this category, which is a very poor score. This is obviously a major concern. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is more often than not a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. We found that this facility was subpar in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 15.7 percent of its patients returning home.
