Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our shot-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. It received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we rated is short-term care. This nursing home was given a better than average nursing grade this year, with a grade of B. While this was not quite as impressive as several of its other scores, this remains one of our stronger scores in this category. In our short-term care category, we try to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
