Facility Inspections
This nursing home's overall grade was propped up by the fact that it has received favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded it a strong score in that category, with a B. This is a much better score than the nursing home's overall grade. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a favorable score in our short-term care category. We gave this nursing home an above average grade of B in that category. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is frequently a meaningful assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared respectably with 47.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In our long-term care score, we weigh the sheer quantity of services provided by a nursing home, along with a handful of qualitative statistics. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 88.88889 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. This facility did not excel here either, with 4.78 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated was nursing. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in this category. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing rating also includes relevant quality-based metrics. While this nursing home excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in certain metrics that focused on quality. This facility's nursing grade was hurt by poor performance in the area of minimizing pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 19.7 percent of this facility's patients were suffering from pressure ulcers. Since many pressure ulcers can be avoided with proper nursing protocols, we reduce a facility's nursing score when we see this kind of prevalence of pressure ulcers.
