While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also received a top-shelf short-term care grade. This actually turned out to be its second most impressive category score. In that area, this facility received a grade of A-. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This score is considered to be a solid assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning the page to our third area, this facility was awarded first-rate long-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A- in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we graded is nursing, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of B. Believe it or not, this was this nursing home's worst area. A nursing home is doing something right when it's lowest score still is better than most nursing homes. Our nursing category weighs several factors, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
