Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a quality facility overall, this facility especially excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Not many facilities fared better in this category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Our nursing rating analyzes several subcategories, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third highest area came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. In the area of long-term care, we weigh the quantity of services provided by a nursing home, rather than more healthcare-oriented services. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinates 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we rated was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. This is a fair grade in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is more often than not a meaningful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. This figure was below the national average.
