Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received a favorable short-term care grade this year. We awarded them a strong score in that category, with a B+. Short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an B+. Few facilities fared better in this category. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a resident more frequently.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned a very favorable inspection score. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored is long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a poor grade. This is clearly a significant disappointment. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
