Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Our inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second highest area came in the area of short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Short-term care grades are critical for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. There are a host of datapoints within this area. Many of these factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care, which was a weak link for this facility. We awarded this nursing home a D for our long-term care category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 98.576515 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
