Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it earned an A+ in short-term care. This is as good as it gets in this category. Short-term care grades are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 56.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade is largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by these figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in the nation when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these statistics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next category, this nursing home was given a very strong long-term care rating. We gave it a grade of A in this area, rounding out a straight A profile. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to offering very favorable levels of nursing care, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.53917 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be effective as this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
