Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category scores came in the area of short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B+. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this category. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This place is above average in terms of both its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This nursing home was better than average with 49.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it received an A+ nursing rating. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. There are numerous criteria included in this grade. Many of the criteria relate to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a D in long-term care, rendering this the nursing home's least impressive category grade. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 95.33955 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable statistic. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home fared much worse with 2.76 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, this figure is nearly twice the national average.
