Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Our nursing grade weighs numerous datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This place was above average in two of the areas we focus on, with good scores for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in that area. In the area of short-term care, we strive to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Based on its abysmal rating in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home provides substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 46.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Historical

The last area we looked at was long-term care, where this facility was given a bottom of the barrel score in this category also. We gave it an F for this area, which is definitely very concerning. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.28179 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
