Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although we gave this place a terrible overall score, we gave it a B+ for our inspections category. This is the result of the nursing home receiving a quality government inspection report this year. Inspection scores are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that this nursing home earned a reasonably solid short-term care score this year. We awarded it a C in this area. Short-term care ratings are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation with 52.3 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This facility provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we analyzed was long-term care. It received an F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 84.42906 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.75 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
