Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. It does not appear that we have deficiency data for this nursing home. We would like to have more data for this facility. Without all of the deficiency data, it is a challenge to assess it in the area of inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care rating and that actually wound up as its second best category. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to patient care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 70.35831 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is short-term care. It received a lowly F in this category, which is a poor score. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. With a score this poor in this category, we weren't shocked to learn that this facility was well below average in many staffing figures we looked at. The nursing home supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
