This nursing home received a nursing score which is stronger than its overall grade. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this area. When computing our nursing scores, we look at both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. At least one fourth of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. This is a high percentage of skilled nursing care. In calculating our nursing grades, we apply additional weight to hours provided by registered nurses. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

In addition, we also wanted to note that this nursing home received strong long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our higher grades in this category, with a grade of B+. This proved to be the nursing home's second best score. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 96.20253 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. This place was also able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.

This nursing home also received a very favorable inspection grade. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

The final category we scored was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in that area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Short-term care grades are often employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 33.6 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
